Daredevil’s 7 Biggest Differences From His Netflix Show

Warning: this article contains spoilers for She-Hulk: Lawyer.

Ever since the rights to Matt Murdock’s character reverted to Marvel Studios, the MCU has welcomed Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear without hesitation. After a cameo appearance giving legal advice to Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way HomeCox reprized her lead role for Netflix Reckless series alongside Jen Walters in the penultimate episode of She-Hulk: LawyerThe first season of (and again, briefly, in the finale).

This was not a mere cameo; during one episode, Daredevil became the co-star of the show. But the Daredevil seen in she-hulk is very different from what fans of his Netflix series are used to. Now he has one-liners, comic book action scenes, and a new golden costume design.

VIDEO PROJECTION OF THE DAY

7/7 your new threads

Daredevil’s appearance in she-hulk was first teased when his new mask was glimpsed in superhero fashion designer Luke Jacobson’s office. When he finally showed up a few episodes later, fans got to see the whole outfit. Daredevil’s new costume has the same diabolical design, but with a striking new gold color scheme.

Some fans prefer the look of the old all-red design, but Daredevil’s new costume is a fitting tribute to his late father. The gold colors are inspired by the boxer shorts, boots and robe his father Jack wore in the boxing ring.

6/7 clever jokes

Ever since the improvisations of Robert Downey, Jr. defined the comedic tone of the MCU, every superhero that has appeared in this universe has exchanged jokes. Matt Murdock never fired off one-liners in his Netflix series, but he has a lot to offer in his she-hulk Cameo. When he first tangles with Jen in She-Hulk form and she removes her mask to see a fellow lawyer hiding behind her, he asks, “Have you ever trashed a parking lot before?” He quickly goes back to “leave a note”.

When Daredevil first bonds with She-Hulk and tells her, “Let me do my thing,” and she replies, “Yeah, and I’ll do my thing,” he sneers, “You ain’t got nothing.” Never do this. It’s a safe bet that Daredevil will get even more jokes in his future appearances in the MCU.

5/7 Less grounded physicality

Daredevil’s fight scenes in the Netflix series were always very grounded and realistic. In comparison, in she-hulk, the action scenes of the character are much more comical. She suddenly took on a superhuman physique that was never seen on the Netflix show.

In she-hulk, the Man Without Fear flips off rooftops, is thrown from a speeding sports car without being hurt, and effortlessly parks off the side of a parking lot. This advanced athleticism will make Daredevil worthy of rubbing shoulders with the Avengers in the larger context of the MCU.

4/7 self-conscious humor

Daredevil’s appearance in the MCU doesn’t just give him a sense of humor; it also gives him a comical self-awareness. When he explains his powers to Jen, he realizes how far-fetched it sounds for a visually impaired superhero to use “echolocation” to fight crime. He admits that Jen is right when he says, “I’m sorry I assumed the guy dressed as the devil was the bad guy.”

In a particular meta-moment, he explains the difference between thugs and henchmen: “Thugs and henchmen are two completely different animals; the minions believe in the cause, the thugs are just there for the paycheck.”

3/7 Coming out of hell’s kitchen

on netflix Reckless series, Matt was on his home turf in Hell’s Kitchen, the crime-ridden corner of New York that he defends with the help of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. But in She-Hulk: Lawyerleave Hell’s Kitchen behind in favor of sunny Los Angeles.

The relocation is not permanent. Matt only stopped by Los Angeles to pick up his new Luke costume, defend him in court, and save him from Leap-Frog’s “Lilypad” lair. The morning after he slept with Jen, he flew back to the Big Apple.

2/7 Joking around during action scenes

The MCU is known for filling its action scenes with dialogue. The heroes and villains of the franchise never come to blows without exchanging many jokes and insults. Spider-Man has Ned and MJ pinned to his chest on a video call as he heads out into the woods to fight Electro.

In she-hulk, Daredevil argues with Jen as they dispatch the Leap-Frog “tadpoles” and discuss possible legal strategies for the low-cost supervillain at the same time. In his Netflix series, Daredevil would never pull a joke during an action scene.

1/7 his cheerful demeanor

In his Netflix series, Daredevil was a dark and brooding antihero who took himself seriously, both in court as a lawyer and on the streets as a vigilante. In she-hulkHe has a much happier demeanor. She uses air quotes to describe her heightened sensory abilities and utters almost every line of hers with a smile.

In Legal Ease, he sends a bright green appletini across the bar as a peace offering to Jen (and a nod to her super-powered alter ego). In the years since the events of his Netflix series, Matt has really calmed down.
