Guys, put that bag of frozen falafel down until you confirm it’s not affected by the recent recall.
On October 7, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it received word from a popular frozen food brand that two of its recent products may contain Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.
Cuisine Innovations Unlimited, LLC, based in New Jersey, voluntarily withdrew its Traditional vegan falafel grown on the land forks Garlic Herb Falafel varieties, according to an official statement.
The recall stated that the affected product was sold and distributed exclusively to Aldi stores, so if you know an Aldi shopper or Falafel fanatic, you might want to bookmark this for them.
According to the release, the potentially contaminated food was shipped to and sold at Aldi stores in the following regions:
- Florida, Georgia
- new hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- West Virginia

The recall includes any product marked with any of the following lot numbers (which can be found in the “Best If Used By” area on the outside flap of the box): 1472, 1481, 1531, 1532, 1541, 1552 , 1561, 1581, 1601, 1611, 1612, 1661, 1682, 1732, 1752, 1762, 1782, 1802, and 1812; and that it would have been shipped to stores after June 24, 2021.
According to the FDA, a person who eats food contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing substances E. coli you could get sick. Symptoms of infection can include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. The disease mainly affects older people, children and people with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely get seriously ill.
There have been 20 reported cases of foodborne illness in six states (FL, IA, KS, MI, OH, and WI) with reported onset dates between July 24, 2022 and September 19, 2022, including five hospitalizations.
