The Kill Devil Hills Finance Department has been honored for excellence in financial reporting by the 34the consecutive year.

The department is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the city and providing a wide range of financial support services. One of those responsibilities requires the department to prepare and file a complete set of financial statements annually, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government accounting standards, to the North Carolina Commission on Local Government. The financial statements must be audited by an independent certified public accountant to ensure that the city’s financial statements are free from material misstatement.

The statements compiled resulted in the city’s finance department producing an annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR), for which Kill Devil Hills recently received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 34the consecutive year for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its achievement represents a significant achievement by a government and its management.

“The achievement of this award was supported in large part by the Mayor and the Town’s Board of Commissioners, who have maintained high standards of professionalism in handling the Town’s finances,” the award announcement read. “The Kill Devil Hills Department of Finance continues to maintain a high priority in both the provision of services and the financial stability of our citizens and visitors.”
