Netflix ‘Bad Guys’ (2022) Series Review: It Takes One Psychopath To Catch Another

Bad Guys begins with a scene where police officers raid a building known to be a hotspot for drug dealers and a notorious criminal: The Rain Murderer. This criminal just goes out in the rain to attack the next victim of his and has therefore been named so. A young captain is lost in the process and his father wants to avenge his death.

Captain Chole’s father appoints Captain Alice, Inspector Pitak and three other prisoners to fulfill the task. Each episode has its title, which is about the main emotion or what the episode will be about, such as “Aggression” or “Beginning”. Three hot heads: Yak, Race and Sky are appointed to the job. The reason these prisoners will be willing to work for the Police lies in the fact that their sentences will be reduced if they prove useful. Captain Alice acts as control for this entire unit as she handles them when things get out of hand.

Suspense has been built up, but that doesn’t help as viewers will soon get bored. It’s just a simple action series and nothing more. Sky’s character is very interesting and she has dedicated the entire second episode to her. She is an artist and a psychopath who doesn’t remember how many women he has killed. Other than that, Captain Alice also has some good character development.

The story seemed unreal as nowhere in the world is the help of prisoners (who have been accused of numerous murders) taken to catch the others. Reliability is a major issue, and to solve it, the cops in this series came up with the idea of a watch that they can take off at will. The story will not keep the viewers guessing as they will already know what is going to happen. If a different approach had been taken to reveal the plot, it might have come in handy.

The second episode of Bad Guys is sure to become the audience’s favorite episode. The title of the series has been kept as Bad Guys because it is about those who catch others. In my opinion, this Thai series is a good watch. It is full of action scenes and the only drawback of the series is the running time. There are twelve episodes that are over an hour long. It gets boring to watch such a long series when the story has been cleared up in the first episode. The only twist that comes is in the last episode. The rest of the series is pretty straightforward. Being a crime action thriller, it fell far short of established standards. Speaking of the action scenes, they could have been better too. Fans of this genre may prefer to skip this series.

Final score – [6/10]
