The story centers on Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir), a girl with great curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination, and the worst parents (Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough) in the world. While they are kept content with shoddy television and dodgy money-making schemes, Matilda loves getting lost in the pages of her beloved books. When they’re loud, selfish, and obnoxious, she’s a quiet observer, thinking of small, brazen acts of rebellion and revenge.

After meeting her inspiring teacher, Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), Matilda perks up and begins to conjure up her own tall tales. Excited to attend Crunchem Hall, Matilda is shocked to discover that the school is a sinister and oppressive place run by the imposing and evil Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson).

Filled with an overwhelming sense of justice, Matilda dares to stand up for what is right and teach Trunchbull a lesson he won’t forget.

MATILDA THE ROALD DAHL MUSICAL is an inspiring musical story of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and musters remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, while also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what is right, she met with miraculous results.

Directed by Tony Award-winning director Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical), the film is produced by Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title, Jon Finn (Billy Elliot) and Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company. Screenwriter Dennis Kelly adapts the Royal Shakespeare Company production for the big screen.
