The rapper bought MNRK Music Group’s label and released his 19th album called BODR. After the purchase, Snoop told the media that blockchain technology and NFTs would be an important element in the Death Row ecosystem.

“Imagine me taking one of my classic records that you love to death, and have always cherished and it means a lot to you,” Snoop explained to Complex media publication in April 2022. “Now you have the right to buy and own it, and trade with it and make money with it. Now you actually have a piece of Snoop Dogg’s legacy, instead of having a CD copy of him that I lost.”

During his interview, Snoop added:

On Thursday, blockchain music company Gala Music revealed that Snoop brand manager Nick Adler has joined a recently launched Gala Music advisory board. In the tweet, Gala shares a video of all the board members, including DJ/songwriter BT, Tupac Shakur’s former manager Leila Steinberg, and record producer DJ EFN. Speaking with Billboard.com contributor Benjamin James, Gala Music’s Vice President and Global Head of Music Business Brandon Tatum discussed the new advisory board.

“The creation of our advisory council is an exciting next step in the growth of Gala Music,” Tatum detailed. “We look forward to harnessing the industry-specific knowledge and wisdom of these entertainment industry experts to help guide the Gala team in their vision and high-level initiatives to increase our chances of sustainable success.” Music.

In April 2022, Snoop appeared on the “Drink Champs” podcast and the rapper detailed that he was removing Death Row Records’ catalog from streaming sites like Spotify. Snoop explained at the time that streaming platforms don’t pay and the only people who get paid are record labels and streaming platforms. Snoop told the hosts of “Drink Champs” that there will be a Death Row app and music streaming in the metaverse very soon.

“The first thing I did was to grab all the music from those platforms that people traditionally know, because those platforms don’t pay,” Snoop emphasized during the podcast. “Those platforms get millions upon millions of streams, and no one but the record companies gets paid. So what I wanted to do was take music away from me, create a platform similar to Amazon, Netflix or Hulu. It will be a Death Row app and in the meantime the music will live on in the metaverse.”
