SPARK – SPARKLE! is pleased to announce new funding from Sony Music Entertainment Philippines to champion the rights of young women and provide access to free, quality education, better reproductive health products and services, as well as support for gender sensitive and sensitive programming.

As a new beneficiary, SPARK! The Philippines will develop an initiative that harnesses the power of storytelling through film and music to showcase inspiring narratives from the young women they support. The selected girls will collaborate with a critically acclaimed filmmaker and artists from Sony Music Philippines to produce short biopics or original documentaries with striking musical scores and theme songs. A separate series of short videos will also be made to showcase how Sony Music Philippines artists engage with young women through their songwriting and recording workshops and sessions.

“In addition to uplifting young women and raising awareness of the issues they face, we want to inspire them to be more creative, dream deeper and aspire higher,” said Maica Teves, Executive Director of SPARK. Philippines. “Young women need help to strengthen and expand their advocacy efforts, and the support of the musicians and filmmakers at Sony Music Philippines will help them do this in a creative way. Through our collaboration with the Sony Music Global Social Justice Fund, we aim to provide our young women with a positive platform to showcase their collaboration and develop meaningful stories that shed much-needed light on the pressing issues they face. We want to embed the belief in equal rights and the importance of education at an early age, and we will work hand in hand with Sony Music Entertainment Philippines to achieve these goals.”

Established in 2012, SPARK! The Philippines is an NGO comprised of empowered women committed to the development of women and women’s organizations as full partners in national development. Funding from Sony Music Philippines will help strengthen collaboration and build partnerships with individuals and organizations in various fields and sectors to advance the young women’s rights and well-being agenda, encourage young women to be agents of change from an early age early by actively participating in social development programs and community projects, claiming their right to participate in policy discussion spaces, and supporting men in alliance and activism by joining activities that promote gender equality.

SPARK – SPARKLE! The Philippines is the latest announced recipient in Asia of Sony Music Group’s Global Social Justice Fund. Launched in 2020, the Fund supports social justice and anti-racist initiatives around the world. Two years later, the Fund has supported nearly 400 community partners around the world and has expanded to cover areas such as civic engagement, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, and education.
